City of North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas has announced the next round of Hometown Heroes' Banners. The program is now open to any Veteran and not just active duty members. The initial recognition of local hometown heroes was by Sally Urban, mother of LCPL Timothy G. Serwinowski who was killed in action in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The banners will have a picture along with the name of the servicemen and women who are Veterans of military service to complement the current Hometown Heroes Banners of active duty service members who lived in North Tonawanda. This year the American Legion, Sikora Post 1322, have selected MM2 Stephen Sikora, US Navy; Sgt John Lukasik, US Army Air Corps; and PFC Stanley Maziarz, US Army to be recognized as Veteran Hometown Heroes.

"This is our humble way to honor the memory of those who have served." said Mayor Pappas. The first three banners in this new program are being purchased by Sikora Post through monies from the Niagara County Community Funds secured by Legislators Rich Andres and Randy Bradt.
