NORTH TONAWANDA - North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas joined City of Tonawanda Mayor Rick Davis Monday night, on the grounds of the City of Tonawanda's City  Hall, for  the Canal Fest Tug of War  between Tonawanda  and North Tonawanda.
The annual event has been a Canal Fest tradition going back to the beginning of the festival. Recent years have seen the City of Tonawanda dominating, with the last North Tonawanda win coming in 2010.
"What an exciting night we had. North Tonawanda was in a bit  of a slump there for a few years, but this team came through in the end," said Mayor Pappas.  "I  want to thank the Captain of the team, Doug Orlowski, and all members of the team for putting in the effort, getting on the same page and winning big for North Tonawanda."
New York Assemblyman  Robin Schimminger  was present to  announce each 15 man team and also to give the  go ahead  to  start pulling.  It took the North Tonawanda  team 25 seconds,  to  traverse the  required  distance,  for the official win.
