Mayor Pappas Announces Canal Fest Tug of War Win

NORTH TONAWANDA - North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas joined City of Tonawanda Mayor Rick Davis Monday night, on the grounds of the City of Tonawanda's City Hall, for the Canal Fest Tug of War between Tonawanda and North Tonawanda.
The annual event has been a Canal Fest tradition going back to the beginning of the festival. Recent years have seen the City of Tonawanda dominating, with the last North Tonawanda win coming in 2010.

"What an exciting night we had. North Tonawanda was in a bit of a slump there for a few years, but this team came through in the end," said Mayor Pappas. "I want to thank the Captain of the team, Doug Orlowski, and all members of the team for putting in the effort, getting on the same page and winning big for North Tonawanda."
New York Assemblyman Robin Schimminger was present to announce each 15 man team and also to give the go ahead to start pulling. It took the North Tonawanda team 25 seconds, to traverse the required distance, for the official win.
