The Guadalcanal Campaign Veterans

On August 14, the anniversary of Vi Day (Victory over Japan), a  memorial service was held at the Marine Memorial Monument at Fisherman's Park, North Tonawanda, New York.

Zero in on their knowledge of battles in the Pacific Theater.... Imperial Japan's efforts to conquer the Pacific from Alaska to the southeast chain of the Solomon Islands.  It was on one of these islands, Guadalcanal, where a brutally bloody air-sea-land battle took place from August 1942 until February 1943. The battle objective on this horrendous jungle island was Henderson Airfield, coveted by Japan and America for air support during this war.  All forces in this battle fought at deaths door, for far too many, that door opened!

From August 12-16 Western New York  honored and remember this heroic band of red, white, and blue brothers.  The Guadalcanal Campaign Veterans.
