• Our 2008 budget allocation of $ 1,930,937 is largely offset by a revenue projection of $1,122,300. • We also generate reserve fund revenue of over $100,000 from donations. • Our parks & recreation maintenance staff maintain approximately 500 acres of City owned recreational facilities and parkland. • New facility improvements since 2001: Park improvements & playgrounds installations have taken place at Martinsville, Carruthers, Stenzil, Wurlitzer and Payne Parks. Taber Tennis Courts were re- surfaced. We have acquired Grants from Sen. Maziarz and Assemblyman Schimminger for renovations at Leah, Pinewoods Park and Felton Field. • Our Senior Citizen Center has undergone a $ 400,000 reconstruction and offers a beautiful setting for our senior population. • Over 500 trees have been planted as part of our annual Planting Program. • Cart paths, Forward T-Boxes, a Pump House and other improvements have been made at Deerwood Golf Course. • New programs have been offered: Start Smart Youth Sports Development Program is a recognized 5 star program by the National Parks & Recreation Program. A recently started Soccer Program has been completely filled. • Over 150 youth and adult athletic teams participate in department leagues. • Body conditioning, health & exercise program has been extremely popular and fits into our role as a community health & wellness promoter. • High School teams utilize Deerwood Golf Course, Rojek, Ramsay and Socia Fields and Taber Tennis Courts. • The City of North Tonawanda will soon take ownership of Gratwick Park which will offer improved and exciting recreational possibilities for this beautiful 53 acre site. • We have a new home for a Youth / Recreation Center located in the Gersh Academy Building (old Lowry Middle School) • Memorial Pool had a new $ 80,000 liner installed in 2006. The Wesley Blintz Pool built in 1947 is one of two existing Blintz Pools still in operation • Gateway Park continues to involve and improve its stature as an exciting and interesting stop on the Erie Canal for visitors and boaters. • Gateway Concerts continue to attract music lovers of all types and tastes each Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday Evening throughout the summer. • Our department conducts special events like our Summer Blast-Off, Easter Egg Hunt, Government Day, Prom Breakfast, Haunted Harbor, Letter To Santa, Christmas Lighting Contest etc. • The department issues permits for park shelters (Mayors, Pinewood, Fisherman's and Gratwick Parks and weddings at the Botanical Gardens. • We conduct both the Youth Court and 1st Offender Programs.
